LIVE PERFORMANCE: WINTERRUPTION YXE

Chad Munson + Lindsey Rewuski with GLAZ + Stephanie Kuse and Spencer Martin - WINTERRUPTION YXE

March 31st / 7:30PM / The Refinery, Saskatoon, SK

Tickets at www.winterruptionyxe.ca or at the Broadway Theatre box office (306-652-6556)

About:
Working at the intersection between experimental digital and analog technologies, this audio-visual duo creates an immersive atmosphere where sound and light influence one another. Chad Munson’s compositions explore the boundaries of organic and synthetic sound, through chance processing and exact programming. This exercise in deep listening is augmented by Lindsey Rewuski’s reactive live visual performance that incorporates liquids, organic materials, chemicals, textiles and other found objects. Together, they seek to engage the audience through a visceral, submersive, and intimate performance.

Chad and Lindsey have been performing together since 2015, sharing the stage with artists such as Loscil, Crys Cole, and Le Révélateur, and have performed together at Pretty Good Not Bad (Victoria), the_SYNCHRESIS_series (Edmonton), MosoFest (Saskatoon), Bring Your Own Headphones (Winnipeg), Gimli Film Festival, and more.

Chad Munson
is a multi-instrumentalist and producer from the Canadian prairies. At the age of 7 he received a malfunctioning analog synthesizer. Listening to the broken synthesizer drift, drone, and distort sparked a fascination with texture that has defined his musical output since. Munson has been producing electronic music since 1998, quietly releasing 9 albums while splitting his time with numerous other projects like Golden Smoke, The Moas, and Grey Light District. Munson has releases on labels such as Muzan Editions (Japan), Fallen Moon (Chicago), Cognition Audioworks (Halifax). His most recent album Sources was released in November 2021 on Muzan Editions and a split with K. Burwash is due on Aural Canyon in 2022.

Lindsey Rewuski is a multi-media artist based in Saskatoon, SK, Treaty 6 Territory. Her work is informed by light art, multi-sensory environments, and 1960s psychedelic light shows. It includes immersive A/V installations and performance that often combine light, photography, painting, audio, sculptural, and video components. Rewuski has projected light at festivals, art spaces, and venues across Canada since 2015, often in collaboration with Munson. You can find more of her work online at lindseyrewuski.com.

ReFrame - Part of In/On/Out

REFRAME is a temporary, localized large-scale outdoor exhibition that brings video art out of the gallery and into the public realm, reframing questions of history and the future; of land and place; video frame and architectural frame; perspective; and cultural access.

REFRAME takes place from March 23 to 27, 2022 as a part of the IN/ON/OUTINTERARTS FESTIVAL and will illuminate several building facades in the Exchange District in Winnipeg, MB, with video projection pieces, encouraging visitors to explore the area and experience video art in a casual public realm. Depending on the locations, some of the work will use projection mapping while other artists have chosen a solid wall to project on; either way the projections will work together to create an immersive and exciting experience in the Exchange District. As most of the artists have never projected on buildings before, we have offered them projection mapping workshops as part of our community development and skills building approach. Each artist has been provided access to an instructor, equipment and software in order to realize their work.

Dispersia 1.a.jpg

Lindsey Rewuski, Dispersia, A/V installation, 2021

On view September 25, 2021
From 7pm to midnight at Art Placement (238 - 3rd Ave. S, Saskatoon, SK)

Dispersia is an A/V work by media artist Lindsey Rewuski, and is part of Rewuski’s new series of work that explores the artistic potential inherent in “Multi-Sensory Environments (MSE)”. An MSE is a dedicated space that is built to offer people with cognitive impairments the opportunity to control a variety of sensory experiences, and are used in institutions like schools or care homes, with the input of specialists. Dispersia was created based on the theory behind MSE environments, with the intention to calm and reduce agitation and anxiety through the use of gentle light, organic movement, and soothing sounds.

Dispersia was created with support from SK Arts and PAVED Arts.
