VARIABLE STAR

Variable Star is a sculptural installation, that is part of Rewuski’s new series of work that explores the artistic potential inherent in “Multi-Sensory Environments (MSE)”. An MSE is a dedicated space that is built to offer people with cognitive impairments the opportunity to control a variety of sensory experiences, and are used in institutions like schools or care homes, with the input of specialists. Variable Star was created based on the theory behind MSE environments, with the intention to calm and reduce agitation and anxiety through the use of gentle light, organic movement, and soothing sounds.

Variable Star is inspired by a common tool used in MSE environments; the mirrorball.

Using a low rpm motor and various light sources, Variable Star creates an immersive environment that can suit different needs.

Created with the support of SK Arts and aka artist-run centre.
